1899 “one of the best sci-fi series of 2022”

A few years ago there were not so many German sci-fi movies and tv shows. Every 5 or 10 years, there were a few gems produced. Among these, it is worth mentioning the classic Run Lola Run in 1998, or the post-apocalyptic horror Hell in 2011. Then, starting with the Dark tv show (2017), there was a continuous stream of quality German science fiction.

1899 sci-fi tv show is created by the same German team that was behind the popular Dark German production. The movie blends in its own unique way mystery, horror, and supernatural. It could be also classified as steampunk, and probably it could easily fit into other sci-fi genres. The mysterious and tense atmosphere on the lost ship is well done. There is a flavor of Lost in the way the mystery unfolds. Similar to Lost, things are tense and captivating, yet they do not make necessarily. Neither they are easy to follow. Even so, this is one of the best German sci-fi production out there.
