Blindness is “an intense and beautiful apocalypse sci-fi drama”
Directed by Fernando Meirelles
Blindness is a Brazilian science fiction movie in the English language, starring the famous actors Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. The film is beautifully directed by Fernando Meirelles. Probably is one of the first, if not the first sci-fi movie based on a global blindness idea. The idea of a blind society was also used in the popular See tv show produced by Apple TV. The post-apocalyptic setup takes place far in the future in the See tv show. On the other hand, Blindness depicts the incipient phase of a blindness apocalypse. What if everybody in the world loses their sight? How society and norms will fall when everybody suddenly becomes blind? The Brazilian sci-fi film depicts an apocalypse where almost everybody is losing sight. There are a few exceptions, like one of the main leads, who is driving their family to safety. Throughout the movie, there are a few disturbing moments and scenes. The director beautifully illustrates the collapse of society and the survival struggle.
